Top 5 Tuesday: Fictional Towns We’d Love To Live In
It’s that time again, pop culture fans…time for another rendition of Top 5 Tuesday! Let’s celebrate making it through two fifths of the work week (hey, that’s quite a benchmark) by taking a stroll through our favorite fictional towns. These are the top 5 fictional places we’d love to apply for citizenship…
Hogwarts (Harry Potter) – Okay, Hogwarts isn’t technically a town, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s the single greatest place ever created. If I couldn’t be a wizard, I’d be happy just living in one of the paintings within the castle.
Stars Hollow (Gilmore Girls) – I would love to be a part of this small Connecticut town where everyone knows everyone else, and there’s a town event every week. Sure, it might cause problems if, say, the local innkeeper and the local diner owner were dating, and when they broke up, the whole town had to choose sides. But other than that, what’s not to like about Stars Hollow’s quaint small-town ambiance?
Pandora (Avatar) – Did you know that there were actually reports of widespread depression in people who, after seeing Avatar, were so upset by the fact that they couldn’t live on Pandora? That world gave us three dimensions of otherworldly beauty, with all kinds of animal and plant life brought to life by James Cameron. If I could live on Pandora, I’d probably live in one of those big, beautiful trees, and I’d wrangle myself one of those flying creatures that I could plug my braid into and ride it like a hypogriff.
Narnia (The Chronicles of Narnia) – Centaurs, fauns, talking badgers—what more could you ask for? As long as you don’t take any Turkish Delight from Tilda Swinton (the White Witch), you’re good to go. Plus, time moves faster in Narnia, so you could just travel through the wardrobe into Narnia to take a nap, read a book, watch all three Godfather movies, and then pop back into real time, and only five minutes would have passed.
Pawnee (Parks & Recreation) – I’m not gonna lie, I would mostly want to live in Pawnee because I hear they have the best waffles in the world. Actually, I think it would be the people that would make Pawnee such an awesome place to live. How great would it be to come to work every day and spend time with people like Leslie Knope, Tom Haverford, and Ron Swanson? I mean, who wouldn’t want to live in a town whose slogan is, “Pawnee: first in friendship, fourth in obesity”?
Well, that’s it for us. What about you, pop culture fans? Would you become a resident of South Park? Or would you risk life and limb by living on a Hellmouth in Sunnydale? Leave your comments below, or tweet us @PopCultureNexus!
