Fringe 1×10 “Safe”: Reactions from a First Time Viewer
Wow! I am still calming down after the episode’s suspenseful ending. What does Loeb and Mr. Jones want with Olivia? I have so many questions, but this is not the episode that will give me answers. Episode 10 begins with agent Loeb breaking into a bank with a small crew of men. However, they do not break in the traditional way. They use a fancy contraption to liquify solid matter, such as the vault’s wall, and then go through it. Fring-y stuff. It is later revealed that they are breaking into banks to retrieve items from Walter’s safety deposit boxes, which will transport Mr. Jones to Little Hill. ![]()

- Hey, it’s agent Loeb, the guy who had the alien slug around his heart. He has a new gizmo.
- Yay, Suunto product placement!

- Aw, Olivia doesn’t have a best friend. You can be her BF, Peter. AH! Fringe just made a Star Wars reference. Olivia: “Even when I was at boarding school, they used to call me Han.” Peter: “As in Solo? That’s Cute. At least you had a nickname.” LMAO! It’s official, Olivia is pretty much perfect. She is a strong female and she grew up with a Star Wars themed nickname.

- New tidbit: Olivia was in the Marines.
- It’s James Frain from Where the Heart Is (aka “Forney”)! He is Mr. Jones’ lawyer.

- What the what? John’s memory in Olivia’s head!!! CRAZY!

- What is Walter’s obsession with hands? First, there was a glass jar with a hand in his car and now he is sawing off the dude’s dead hand.
- Don’t hold it in Olivia! Tell them! Oh man, she is about to cry. Anna Torv is such a good actress!
- Ms. Terminator is trying to reconstruct John’s memories.
- Awwww, Peter is joining Olivia at the bar. Even though they are working, in my head, they are on a date.

- Daaaaang. Olivia likes her Whiskey. I totally know what to get her for Christmas now. LOL
- OH EM GEE. I am dying at Peter’s adorable smirk to Olivia’s comment, “I’m Stephanie and this is my brother, Rick.” Bartender: “Hey brother Rick.”

- HAHA Cheers, Liv! She took that drink in one gulp.
- Peter: “It’s incredible. She’s been able to do that since we were kids. Remember that?” Olivia: “I do.” Oh my gosh. I can’t. I just can’t. Olivia and Peter are too adorable. I need a moment.

- Peter does magic tricks?! Okay the adorableness barometer is reaching dangerous levels.
- Olivia is so good with numbers. So, she did have a best friend in high school. She just mentioned it.
- HAHAHAHA I love Walter! “Do you two want to use the room?” Seriously guys, just go ahead.

- The safety deposit boxes belong to Walter?!

- Oh no! Ms. Terminator found out some of John’s memories are in Olivia’s mind.
- Mr. Jones wants Olivia. Creepy.
- Little Hill!!!!!
- Peter almost died when he was a boy and Walter invented a time machine to save him! That’s the thing Loeb is after.
- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! They got Olivia!

- It’s Mr. Jones! They teleported him from the German prison.

Wow Mary, this is by far my favorite rookie recap yet!!! Yes, Peter and Olivia are so adorable it should be a crime! I can’t wait til you get to the epps when you don’t have to pretent their together! I’m also glad to know that with you and Louise, I’m not the only one whose heart skips a beat each time I watch Polivia scenes!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for coming back and reading my recaps. I try to get Louise to tell me when Olivia and Peter are finally a couple on the show, but she won’t budge. She wants me to wait like everyone else, which is how it should be. I can daydream in the meantime.

Excellent recap. Is it weird that I’m nervous waiting for your recaps of my two favourite Season 1 eps, because I hope you like them as much as I do?
No. It’s not weird at all. Hopefully, I don’t disappoint you. -Mary
I love reading your recaps! I feel like I’m re-living Fringe again for the first time. That scene in the bar is still one of my favorites even after four seasons
Huge Fringe fan here and it’s great to read someone’s perspective the first time through. You’re doing a great job of picking up on all the little tidbits that become important in future seasons so kudos and enjoy- you’re mind is going to be blown on more than one occasion until it reaches the point of being blown away by every episode.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, your recaps are awesome!
Thanks. I’m trying my best to pick up on the tidbits but I get so distracted with the small, facial expressions Peter and Olivia give each other. LOL -Mary
I also love reading your recaps and am very envious that you get to see it all from the beginning without knowing anything that has happened. It’s so good. Keep in mind that season one, in many viewers opinions, isn’t even the best season. I think it hits its stride mid season one and keeps on rolling from there. And the Peter and Olivia love story. . .just epic. It’s sweet, sad, heartbreaking, hopeful, joyful and beautiful at various times (and sometimes at the same time). I think they might be my favorite OTP ever.
I love this episode sooooo much! Especially the Polivia adorableness! The bar scene is one of my favorites on the show and when Walter asks them if they want the room. hsjdfghljdksgklfdshg
PS – I love your first time viewer reactions!
I LOVED the bar scene. I was so giddy- like a tween at a Justin Bieber concert. Thanks so much reading! -Mary
